Crochet Santa Claus

MATERIALS: *Size 10 bedspread cotton — 1500 yds. Ecru and 750 yds. burgundy; metallic gold thread; *31⁄2 yds. metallic gold 1⁄ 4 ” rope; 1 yd. green 1⁄ 8 ” satin ribbon; *41⁄2″ porcelain Santa head and hands; 900 white 4-mm pearl beads; one white 8-mm pearl bead; 2 white 3⁄4″ teardrop pearls with jump rings; one pair 1 3⁄ 4 ” doll eyeglasses; 2 gold 23⁄4″ tassels; one gold 21⁄2″ tassel; assorted novelty toys and packages; 3 sprays holly berries; metallic gold dried baby’s breath flowers; 12″ square piece of green felt; 12″ square piece of cream felt; 8″ circle of mat board; 8″ x 101⁄2″ piece poster board; wide clear tape; polyester fiberfill; craft glue or hot glue gun; green and cream sewing thread; straight pins; tapestry needle; No. 0 steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge. *This project was made using “Grandma’s Best” crochet thread, Wright’s® gold rope and porcelain head/hands #162-23 from Mangelsen’s GAUGE: With 2 strands thread held tog, 6 dc = 1″; 8 dc rows = 3″. NOTE: Work entire pattern with 2 strands thread held together unless otherwise stated. SKILL LEVEL: 55 Average BODY Row 1: Starting at neck, with ecru, ch 33, sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc in next ch, (sc in next ch, 2 sc in next ch) across, turn (48 sc). Row 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in next st, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) across, turn (72 dc). Row 3: Ch 3, dc in each st across, turn. Row 4: Ch 3, dc in next 12 sts, (2 dc in each of next 3 sts, dc in next 5 sts, 2 dc in each of next 3 sts), dc in next 25 sts; repeat between ( ), dc in last 12 sts, turn (84). Row 5: Ch 3, dc in next 9 sts; for armhole, skip next 21 sts; dc in next 21 sts; for armhole, skip next 21 sts; dc in last 11 sts, turn (42 dc). SANTA CLAUS Row 6: Ch 3, dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st, (dc in next 5 sts, 2 dc in next st) across, turn (49). Row 7: Repeat row 3. Row 8: Ch 3, dc in each of next 3 sts, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 5 sts) across to last 3 sts, dc in each of last 3 sts, turn (56). Rows 9-10: Repeat row 3. Row 11: Ch 3, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 5 sts) across to last st, dc in last st, turn (65). Row 12: Repeat row 3. Row 13: Ch 3, dc in each of next 2 sts, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 5 sts) across to last 2 sts, dc in each of last 2 sts, turn (75). Rnd 14: Working in rnds, ch 3, dc in each st around, join with sl st in top of ch-3, do not turn. Rnd 15: Ch 3, dc in each st around, join. Rnd 16: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in each of next 2 sts, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 5 sts) around, join (88). Rnds 17-18: Repeat rnd 15. Rnd 19: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in each of next 3 sts, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 5 sts) around, join (103). Rnds 20-21: Repeat rnd 15. Rnd 22: Ch 3, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 5 sts) around, join (120). Rnds 23-27: Repeat rnd 15. Rnd 28: Working this rnd in back lps only, repeat rnd 15, fasten off.
