How to Draft the Sarong Skirt with Cascade

The sarong skirt is a wrap-type garment in which the wrap is drawn up to waistline. In this variation, a cascade falls in a spiral from the waistline.

STEP 1

A. Trace two-dart fitted skirt.
B. Square out 14” from the center front waistline and hemline intersections, and square a straight line parallel to center front to complete the rectangle.

PLEATS
C. Place crossmarks to the left of center front on the waistline to

indicate space between the pleats. (///. 3”, 5/8”, 5/8”, for a total of 4 1⁄4” from center front.)
D. Draw curved line from the first crossmark through the two dart points, and on to the side seam.

E. From the second and third crossmarks draw two curved, equally spaced lines to the side seam.

CASCADE HEM EDGE

F. Draw a curved cascade hem edge.

STEP 2

A. Slash the three pleat line to the side seam, and fold waistline darts closed.
B. Spread pleat lines open to desired depth for each pleat. Blend side seam.

NOTE: The first pleat will open an amount controlled by the closing of the darts. It can be made wider by spreading it from the side seam as desired.0
