Victorian Boxes

ROUND BOX SIZE: Fits 31⁄4″ round box. STITCHES USED: Chain, single crochet, double crochet, slip stitch. See Crochet Basics for stitch illustrations. GAUGE: Rnds 1 and 2 of Cover = 31⁄4″ across. MATERIALS: Size 10 bedspread cotton — small amount ecru; 12″ burgundy 1⁄2″ braid; 11⁄4 yds. pearl 4-mm strung beads; 8 pearl 8-mm beads; 4 pearl 6-mm beads; 2 pink 1⁄ 2″ ribbon roses; 6 med. red, 3 pink and 2 dk. red 3⁄ 8 ” rosebuds; *3 1 ⁄ 4 ” round black box with lid; craft glue or hot glue gun; No. 7 steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge. *This project was made using “Adornables plastic box by The Beadery Skill Level Average INSTRUCTIONS COVER Rnd 1: Ch 8, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 6, (dc in ring, ch 3) 7 times, join with sl st in top of ch-3 (8 ch-3 sps). Rnd 2: Sl st in first ch sp, ch 13, dc in 7th ch from hook, ch 3, (dc in next ch sp, ch 10, dc in 7th ch from hook, ch 3) around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of ch-13 (8 petals). Rnd 3: Working in ch-6 sps on top of petals, sl st in first ch-6 sp, ch 3, (dc, 6 sc, 2 dc) in same sp, (2 dc, 6 sc, 2 dc) in each ch-6 sp around, join with sl st in top of ch-3 (80 sts). Rnd 4: Ch 6, skip next 2 sts *[sc in next st, ch 3, skip next st, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next st, ch 3, skip next st, sc in next st, ch 3, skip next 2 sts], dc in sp between last petal and next petal, ch 3, skip next 3 sts; repeat from * 6 more times; repeat between [ ], join with sl st in 3rd ch of ch-6 (40 sts, 32 ch-3 sps, 8 ch-5 sps). Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in same st, (*ch 6, skip next 2 ch-3 sps, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 6, skip next 2 ch-3 sps*, 2 dc in next st) 7 times; repeat between **, join with sl st in top of ch-3, fasten off. FINISHING 1: Glue Cover over lid on box. 2: Glue strung beads around outer edge of Cover. 3: Cut 4 pieces strung beads each 3″ long. Fold each piece in half to form loop. Glue ends of each loop to center of Cover. 4: Arrange ribbon roses and rosebuds on center of Cover as desired.
